Description
The rain tastes like ash tonight. You can feel it clinging to your skin, a greasy film that seeps into your pores. Makes you wonder if the sky itself is weeping for what this city has become. You pull your threadbare collar higher, the meager protection doing little to ward off the chill that bites deeper than the wind.
Welcome to Veridium. Once a jewel of progress, a gleaming beacon on the horizon, it's now a festering wound, a monument to forgotten promises. They promised prosperity, promised equality, promised a future powered by the Lumina, a mysterious energy source discovered deep beneath the city. Instead, they delivered corruption, division, and a creeping darkness that chokes the life out of everything it touches.
You are not a hero. You are not a savior. You are just trying to survive. Maybe you're a scavenger, picking through the ruins for scraps. Maybe you're a runner, delivering illicit messages between factions vying for control. Maybe you're a data broker, peddling secrets for a handful of credits. Or maybe… maybe you're something more, something you haven't yet discovered.
The Lumina still flows, but its power is distorted, twisted by the greed and ambition that permeate every level of Veridium's fractured society. Strange occurrences are becoming more frequent. Whispers of mutated creatures lurking in the undercity, of technological anomalies that defy explanation, of whispers carried on the static of the overloaded comms networks.
You have a past, of course. Scars both visible and hidden. Losses that haunt your dreams. Debts you can't afford. But that doesn't matter anymore. The past is a ghost, and Veridium doesn't care about ghosts. Veridium cares about survival.
Tonight, your journey begins. The rain continues to fall. The city breathes. And you, a tiny cog in this broken machine, must decide which path to take, which alliances to forge, and what you're willing to sacrifice to see another dawn.
The only question is, are you ready to face the darkness? Are you ready to fight for your place in a city that wants to devour you whole? Because Veridium is waiting. And it rarely offers second chances.
